As well as tongue and pulse diagnosis (and of course analysis of patient’s presenting signs and symptoms), traditional Chinese medicine
practitioners can use facial features to help diagnose people’s problems. This is a fascinating and often illuminating technique.
Here’s a few introductory things to look for:
The bridge of the nose is seen as reflecting the state of the pancreas. Horizontal lines and yellowness in this area can indicate pancreatic dysfunction.
The lower eyelid is understood to be an indicator of adrenal problems. If there is redness, or if the lower eyelid is droopy, this can indicate adrenal issues.
The eyebrows are a reflection of the strength of the liver. Weak eyebrows means a weakened liver.
The cheeks and also the jaw-line can reflect the stomach. Red cheeks, for example in conditions such as rosacea, can indicate issues with the stomach.
