I came across this new acupuncture protocol recently. It involves six acupuncture points, three on each thigh. It is named after a four-horse carriage, which is a useful metaphor for the purportedly strong and lasting effects of these points.
Dr Tung was a traditional Chinese physician from Shandong Province who was famous for miraculous and spontaneous results obtained using just a few needles.
Four Horses Middle is located three cun (or four finger widths) anterior to the point Feng Shi. Four Horses Upper is then located two cun proximal, and Four Horses Lower is located two cun distal to the first point. This lower point is on a line drawn up from the lateral corner of the patella along the edge of the thigh, at the location where the muscle turns down from the anterior to the lateral plane and is needled perpendicular to the skin.
The points are indicated for many conditions, including: colds and flu, allergies and asthma, auto# diseases, ear and eye disorders, and all skin disorders.
These points are located very close to the Stomach meridian in a large muscle group with significant nerve and blood supplies. This enables the points to tonify the Spleen, the Stomach, and the Qi of the body.
It is said that these points can be very effective in the treatment of fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis.
